In late Dec 2019, I began to hear about a contagious disease spreading in Wuhan China, now known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Colloquially known as simply the coronavirus. By January '20, I began to see websites tracking the spread of COVID-19.

I was eager to learn how to build my dashboard. With a simple Google search, “how to build a coronavirus map” I was led to numerous web-pages that provided tutorials on employing languages like python and java to build real-time dashboards. At the time, I had limited programming knowledge, but I was eager to learn those skills. I turned to Coursera, edX, Educative, and various massive open online course providers to learn these skills. In my free time, I began learning how to program. 103 online certificates later, I learned skills needed to build dashboards of my own that track the spread of COVID-19. In my spare time — as my school went virtual —  I began collecting and compiling COVID-19 data to create my dashboards.

With my new programming skills, I began to incorporate Java into a software application, called ArcGIS and began scripting commands-based data types to make up geographical points and data. I used domain-specific languages such as JavaScript, R, SQL, HTML, CSS, Python to sort through large sets of data, build the front-end and back-end development for my website.

Over the last year and a half, my website has grown both in visitors and by the amount of data that I display. My website now displays over 687+ pages of COVID-19 related information and data. My website has been an international success with views from all corners of the world, from areas such as Nerima, Japan to Brisbane, Australia to Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel. I started this website, intending to provide reliable and accessible data through a minimalist website.
