COVID-19 in Texas Counties

Visit the "COVID-19 timeline" page for full coverage of the ongoing viral pandemic at the county and state levels for all world regions.

In Texas, USA, the first case of COVID-19 — a novel infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) — was logged on February 13, 2020, amidst U.S. nationals evacuated from China to Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland beginning in early February. With recent antibody seroprevalence studies, analyses have proposed an earlier origin date than previously stated. The first documented case of COVID-19 in Texas outside of evacuees at Lackland was confirmed on March 4, 2020, in Fort Bend County, and many of the state's largest cities registered their first cases throughout March 2020. The state documented its first death associated with the disease on March 17, 2020, in Matagorda County.
