Update on COVID-19 in India

284 days ago — on May 6, 2021 — India, shattered the world record for new COVID-19 cases recorded in a single day: 414,188. Since early May, the Republic of India has undergone another wave, this time from the vicious Omicron Variant (B.1.1.529).



As of February 14, 2022, at 5:50:32 PM (MST), India reported 27,409 new COVID-19 cases, according to The Government of India. The daily positivity rate has dropped to 2.23% — from 3.19% the previous day. India's active COVID-19 caseload today also diminished to 4,23,127 while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 97.82 percent, official Government sources declare.


Around the world, the creators of COVID-19 vaccines trekked into the limelight in today's midday trading after a regulatory setback sent their stocks plunging. Pfizer (NYSE: PFE), BioNTech (NASDAQ: BNTX), Moderna (NASDAQ: MRNA), and Novavax (NASDAQ: NVAX) all stationed considerable losses.


Today, a specialist panel of India's central drug authority suggested granting restricted emergency-use authorization to Biological E's COVID-19 vaccine, Corbevax for the age group 12 to 18 years. Furthermore, the Drugs Controller General Of India (DCGI) already provided the green light/approved Corbevax — for restricted use in an emergency authorization in adults back in late December.


Vaccination summary as of February 14, 2022, at 11:18:53 PM (MST) — 61.8% of the world population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 10.38 billion doses have been administered globally, and 27.73 million are now administered each day. Only 10.6% of people in low-income countries have received at least one dose.
